Welcome to Kids Zone at the Y!

Welcome to Kids Zone at the YMCA of Snohomish County! Kids Zone is a drop-in child care service included in a Family Membership at the Y where parents or guardians are able to use the facility freely while getting up to two hours of free child care per day.

What We Do

Let our caring staff supervise your child(ren) in a safe, structured environment while you use the YMCA facilities. We offer age-appropriate areas – one for infants, one for toddlers, and one for older children – that contain activities for each age group.

Access to Kids Zone is a free benefit for those with active YMCA family memberships. Come on by and enjoy a rejuvenating workout while your child(ren) can learn, play, and have fun in a space specifically organized for kids!

Kids Zone Ages

Kids Zone serves children 6 weeks to 10 years old.

Kids Zone FAQs

Is my child eligible for Kids Zone?

Children must meet the following criteria to be eligible for Kids Zone:
•6 weeks to 9 years old
•Attached to an active Family Membership

Participating families must have an active Family 1, Family 2, or Family 3 membership. Welcome Center teams will institute a process for confirming membership status before the family arrives at Kids Zone.

Are the staff able to change diapers?

No. Because we are not licensed child care, we are also unable to change diapers. If we suspect a child needs a diaper change, a staff member will locate the parent in the building to notify them.

What are staff ratios and groupings in Kids Zone?

Staff ratios are the guidelines we follow to ensure proper supervision of each child. Kids Zone aims for the following ratios:

Child Watch Space (Infant/Babies) – 1 staff per 4 infants
Infants 6 weeks or older and babies not yet walking, typically under 2 years old
Child Watch Space (Toddlers) – 1 staff per 10 children
Toddlers who can walk steadily on their feet and up to 4 years old
Adventure Zone Space – 1 staff per 15 children
Youth ages 4-10 years old

What if my child is sick?

Following the guidelines below will allow us to maintain everyone’s health and well-being. We appreciate you respecting the health of the other children in Kids Zone by cooperating with us. An ill child will not be admitted and children who become ill may not remain in Kids Zone. For the safety of your child as well as the other children in Kids Zone, you may not bring a child to our program for one business day after having any of the following symptoms:

  • A fever of 100 of higher
Intestinal disturbance accompanied by diarrhea or vomiting
  • Any undiagnosed rash
  • Sore or discharging eyes or ears
  • Profuse, colored nasal discharge not accompanied with seasonal allergies
  • A communicable disease

Can I pack snacks for my child?

All snacks must be peanut and tree nut free. Children must sit in a designated eating area to consume food and snacks.

Can I bring outside items?

No outside toys, books, blankets, etc. are permitted in Kids Zone unless essential to a child’s well-being.

What is used to clean? How often do you clean?

Following the Washington State Department of Health guidelines, Kids Zone cleans using a mixture of 1 quart of water to 1/2 teaspoon of bleach. Kids Zone staff sanitize all toys after each shift, deep clean toys weekly, and immediately sanitize anything that comes into contact with a child’s mouth.

What credentials do staff have?

Kids Zone staff are not licensed childcare workers. They do, however, undergo several trainings to ensure they can provide a safe environment for children. Staff must receive up-to-date certificates in Child Abuse Prevention as well as Basic Life Support and First Aid.

Can I take pictures or videos of my child in Kids Zone?

Generally, photo and video are not permitted in Kids Zone due to safety concerns. Any pictures taken must have consent of staff members and must exclude any children other than your own. Please ask staff before taking any photos or videos.

What happens if my child is upset or crying?

Our staff make every effort to keep your child happy and content in Kids Zone. In the event that your child is not able to be consoled and has consistent crying for a period of over 10 minutes, we will seek you out, as the parent or guardian and ask for your assistance in soothing the child.
