YMCA Basketball: Building Skills, Character, and Community

YMCA Basketball is more than just a sport – it’s a comprehensive youth development program designed to nurture young athletes both on and off the court. Our basketball leagues cater to children and teens from age 5 through 10th grade, offering age-appropriate experiences that grow with your child.

At the heart of YMCA Basketball is our commitment to fostering a love for the game while instilling important life skills. We believe in creating an inclusive environment where players of all skill levels can thrive, from beginners taking their first dribble to more experienced athletes honing their techniques.

Our programs are structured to provide a natural progression of skill development:

  • For our youngest players (Age 5-Grade 2), we focus on fun, basic skill introduction, and building confidence through modified rules and equipment.
  • In the middle grades (3-8), we offer both recreational and more competitive (YBL) options, allowing families to choose the best fit for their child’s interest and ability level.
  • For older youth (Grades 7-10), we provide a more advanced league (YBL) that bridges recreational play with competitive basketball, preparing teens for potential high school play while maintaining an inclusive atmosphere.

Across all age groups, YMCA Basketball emphasizes:

  • Skill Development: Age-appropriate training in basketball fundamentals and strategies.
  • Sportsmanship: Learning to compete with integrity, respect, and fairness.
  • Teamwork: Fostering collaboration, communication, and support among teammates.
  • Character Building: Developing leadership, responsibility, and positive attitudes.
  • Physical Fitness: Promoting active lifestyles and overall health.
  • Inclusion: Ensuring all players, regardless of ability, have opportunities to participate and improve.
  • Fun: Creating enjoyable experiences that keep kids engaged and excited about basketball.

YMCA Basketball is also about community. We encourage family involvement and create opportunities for parents to be part of their child’s sporting journey as being coaches. Our programs strengthen social connections, bringing together diverse groups of young people united by their love of basketball.

Whether your child dreams of future basketball stardom or simply wants to enjoy the game with friends, YMCA Basketball provides a positive, enriching experience. Join us in building skills, character, and community – one dribble, pass, and shot at a time.

New Jerseys for the 2025-26 Season and Beyond

The YMCA of Snohomish County Basketball program will be using new jerseys for the upcoming 2025-26 season, and we’re excited to introduce new designs for each branch! All players will need to purchase a jersey for this season. We are confident that these new, higher-quality, reversible jerseys will be a great addition to the program and can be used for multiple seasons. This makes them a one-time purchase for your family as long as your child is in the program.
