YMCA Camp Casey to Host Free Earth Day Celebration

Coupeville, WA. April 8, 2025 — On Saturday, April 19, from 10 am to 2 pm, community members across Whidbey Island are invited to YMCA Camp Casey for a free, family-friendly Earth Day celebration. Set against the backdrop of one of the island’s most scenic locations, the event promises hands-on environmental experiences, local partnerships, and a shared spirit of stewardship.

Born from a simple conversation over coffee with a longtime islander, the Earth Day event grew into something much bigger: a shared space for organizations, families, and changemakers to connect around a common cause.

“We’re tapping into what already makes Whidbey special — strong partnerships, community spirit, and a deep love for this island,” said Jake Carlson, Executive Director of Camp Casey. “This is about celebrating and strengthening those roots.”

Attendees can walk the beach while learning about marine life, scan the skies for birds at Crockett Lake, or explore preservation efforts firsthand in the heritage forest and Admiralty Inlet Preserve. Throughout the day, over 20 local organizations will offer immersive activities grounded in the themes of Educate, Celebrate, Collaborate, and Activate — giving guests the chance to learn, connect, and take meaningful action for the environment.

Participating Organizations: Whidbey Camano Land Trust, Sound Water Stewards, Tulalip Tribes Natural Resources, Pacific Rim Institute, Orca Network, Whidbey Audubon Society, Whidbey Climate ACTION, Price Sculpture Forest, Sno-Isle Sierra Club, Island Transit, Whidbey Island Kayaking, South Whidbey Tilth, Whidbey Environmental Action Network, Whidbey Forest Friends, WSU Extension Master Gardeners, Island County Noxious Weed Control Board, Island County Public Health, Girl Scouts of Western Washington, Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island, Whidbey Watershed Stewards, MICAH, and YMCA Camp Casey.

With a kids’ zone hosted by South Whidbey Parks and Rec and food for purchase available from local favorites like Whidbey Provisions and Bearly Awake Coffee Company, there’s something for every age and interest.

“When people leave Camp Casey on Earth Day, we want them to feel energized — like they did something meaningful today, and they know what to do next,” Carlson added.

The event is supported by a generous donation from Puget Sound Energy and accessible via Island Transit, which stops directly at Camp Casey. Rain or shine, all are welcome.

YMCA of Snohomish County’s Community Campaign Raises $1.52 Million

EVERETT, WA. March 31, 2025 – The YMCA of Snohomish County is proud to announce the success of its 2025 Community Campaign, which raised over $1.52 million through dedicated volunteer-led efforts. As the Y’s largest annual fundraising initiative, Community Campaign mobilizes volunteers, staff, and community partners to champion the mission of ensuring equitable access to YMCA programs, memberships, and services for all.

“This incredible achievement reflects the generosity and commitment of our community,” said Peyton Tune, President and CEO of the YMCA of Snohomish County. “Every dollar raised helps remove barriers, ensuring individuals and families have access to life-changing programs that foster health, well-being, and a sense of belonging.”

This year’s campaign focused on four key initiatives:

  • Strength in Community: Campaign contributions provide financial assistance so children, families, and individuals can access vital programs, including child care, youth leadership, and wellness initiatives, creating a space where everyone can thrive.
  • Combating Isolation: The Y is committed to creating welcoming spaces for over 150,000 people—seniors, teens, children, and adults—helping to combat loneliness and build meaningful connections.
  • Youth Development: In 2025, the Y will reach over 50,000 youth across Snohomish County, offering mentorship, transformative programs, and safe spaces that empower the next generation of changemakers.
  • Accessible Child Care: Addressing the critical need for high-quality child care, the Y will serve over 1,400 children this year, giving families confidence that their children are in a safe, supportive, and enriching environment.

All funds raised through the Community Campaign directly benefit the six local Y branches, Youth Leadership programs, Early Learning initiatives, and YMCA Camp Casey.

“This campaign is about so much more than dollars—it’s about impact,” Tune added. “With the support of our generous donors and dedicated volunteers, we are transforming lives and strengthening our community. We are deeply grateful to the more than 2,200 donors who made this possible.”

March 17, 2025 – We proudly celebrate the incredible achievements of our YMCA Mock Trial teams from Marysville Family YMCA and Mukilteo Family YMCA at the Washington State Competition held last weekend in Tacoma, WA. The students displayed not only legal acumen but also the values that define our Y community—integrity, respect, and teamwork.

My Y Week Raises over $42,500 for the 2025 Community Campaign

EVERETT, WA. March 10, 2025 – The YMCA of Snohomish County wrapped up its 3rd Annual My Y Week, exceeding expectations and surpassing its $40,000 fundraising goal by bringing in over $42,500 in financial support. Throughout My Y Week, community partners donated $1 for every member check-in from March 2 – 8, 2025, generating excitement and participation for the 2025 Community Campaign.

This year’s My Y Week partners, LifeWise Health Plan of Washington, BASE by Pros, UBS, Tapped Public House, Tulalip Resort Casino, Stillaguamish Tribe of Indians, Angel of the Winds Casino Resort, Coastal Community Bank, Harbour Pointe Men’s Club, Home Run Solutions, and Mukilteo ACE Hardware, share in the Y’s mission of creating a healthy, connected community for all, regardless of an individual’s ability to pay.

These partners support the Y because they recognize the importance of strong community partnerships in promoting health and well-being. Their contributions help ensure that everyone, regardless of financial circumstances, has access to the programs and resources they need to thrive.

“At LifeWise, we know that health and wellness start outside of the doctor’s office and in our communities,” said Miranda Howard, LifeWise Health Plan of Washington. “Where our scope of expertise is within the healthcare system, the Y can meet our members’ needs for community and holistic wellness. Partnering to support one another in our areas of expertise strengthens the fabric of our community.”

The 2025 Community Campaign aims to raise $1.6 million to provide equitable access to all YMCA programs, including swimming lessons, youth sports, and child care. Last year, the Y granted $2.5 million in financial assistance and funds raised this year will help close the gap.

“Our community sponsors believe in the impact of the Y,” said Jennifer Willows, Chief Development Officer of YMCA of Snohomish County. “We want to extend a huge ‘thank you’ for their generous support and their commitment to community.”

Participation from YMCA members was also key to My Y Week’s success.

“We’re incredibly grateful to our Y members who showed up in full force,” said Willows. “Over 42,500 check-ins across our six facilities translated directly into financial support for the Community Campaign. It’s inspiring to see our members make such a meaningful difference just by being here.”

With three weeks remaining in this year’s Community Campaign, the Y hopes the energy and excitement generated during My Y Week will inspire even more individuals to give. To learn more about the 2025 Community Campaign, please visit ymca-snoco.org/community-campaign.

Youth and Government Leaders in Action at YMCA Camp Casey

Coupeville, WA. February 8, 2025 — Braving the winter weather, Youth and Government students from YMCA of Snohomish County and Whatcom Family YMCA came together at YMCA Camp Casey to prepare for the 78th Youth Legislative Session in May at the State Capitol!

For some students, it was their first experience debating bills and speaking in public. Stepping up as future leaders, they embraced the challenge, discovered their voices, and built confidence through thoughtful discussions on real-world issues. Returning students showed incredible leadership, mentoring their peers and fostering an environment of collaboration and growth.

At the Youth Legislative Session, students step into the roles of lawmakers, debating bills, writing legislation, and practicing parliamentary procedure in a hands-on, student-led experience. They engage in floor debates, committee discussions, and leadership roles, all while gaining a deeper understanding of the legislative process. YMCA of Snohomish County plans to bring a delegation of over 75 students to the legislative session.

“I can’t wait to see our students take the next step in their leadership journeys,” said Harrington. “They’re ready to make an impact and a difference in our community.”
