Special Needs Adaptive Programs

Recognizing the need for quality adaptive programming for individuals in the Snohomish County area, the Special Needs Adaptive Programs help individuals gain confidence, promote independence and responsibility, socialize and work with others, as well as nurture a healthy and active lifestyle. All programs are lead by qualified, trained individuals who help promote a safe, friendly, and
supportive environment.

Miracle League Baseball

The Rotary Club of Monroe formed the Miracle League, a youth baseball team co-sponsored with the Monroe/Sky Valley Family YMCA, for children with special needs.

Many of our players have profound physical and cognitive challenges. These kids have never had the opportunity to do the exciting things every kid should get to experience. Miracle League offers these children an opportunity to suit up in a uniform, step up to the plate, and enjoy playing the game of baseball in its purest form.

A player can be assigned a buddy if they need one. It is a dream most of them would not be able to realize as members of a traditional youth baseball league.

“Everyone hits, every one gets on base, and everyone comes home.” No one keeps score. And everyone has fun!

Miracle Team Bowling

Miracle Team Bowling takes place at Brunswick Majestic Lanes in Lynnwood. There are ramps available and bumpers in the gutters. Those who need assistance are provided with a buddy.

SKIP: Special Kids in Play

SKIP teaches basic basketball skills and allows kids to participate in their own game. The kids love to go from hoop to hoop and they make a basket every time! Parents sit on the sidelines to watch, and cheer their kids playing a sport they never thought they could play.

SNAP: Special Needs Aquatic Playtime

Each Sunday noon-2 pm, the Monroe Y opens its pool to all families and children with special needs. Free of charge, adults 18 and over need to show photo ID.

Adaptive Swim Classes

During the adaptive swim classes, the parent is in the pool with the child if needed. They are joined by a swim instructor and an occupational therapist that rotates throughout the class.

The class is limited in size to ensure quality, focused time with each child. Please contact the Aquatics Director of your branch to inquire about the availability of adaptive swim lessons.
