Stanwood-Camano Initiative

The YMCA plays a major role in strengthening the foundations of the communities we support.

In the spring of 2010, the YMCA of Snohomish County received a Letter of Intent from a group of Stanwood-Camano leaders expressing interest in YMCA services for their community. This group of citizens recognized that one of the biggest needs within their community was for positive activities for children and families.

Support for this effort was soon offered by the City of Stanwood, the Island County Board of Commissioners, and other leading organizations around the community.

The first step conducted was the assessment of the viability and sustainability of a YMCA via a Community Feasibility Study.  Funds were raised locally for the study, which was completed in October of 2010. Survey results were very positive, with 54% of telephone respondents and 83% of online respondents indicating they would be "Highly Likely" to join a YMCA in Stanwood-Camano.

The YMCA of Snohomish County has now officially sanctioned the Stanwood-Camano YMCA effort, and has invited the local organizing committee to join the Y's facilities planning process.
