EVERETT, Wash., March 28, 2006 – Even though spring has just sprung, it’s time to start thinking about what you’ll do with the kids this summer. Open registration for YMCA of Snohomish County Summer Camp begins Saturday, April 8 for camps offered through all five convenient YMCA family branches: Everett, Marysville/North County, Monroe/Sky Valley, Mukilteo, and Southeast/Silver Firs.
Whether they’re singing or swimming, attending field trips or playing sports, campers at YMCA day and overnight camps have had fun – and developed good values – for more than 100 years. Although each camp is unique, all YMCA summer camps provide safe places with caring adults and positive activities. All YMCA of Snohomish County camps focus on the development of the four core character values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
For campers, Y camp is a fun way to enjoy the summer. For parents, it’s a way to give their children a positive developmental experience. And for parents who work outside of the home, Y camp provides a safe, fun alternative to regular child care.
A wide range of summer programs are available for campers ranging in age from kindergarten through high school. The YMCA offers full-day programming and care for school-age children during summer months. Activities include age-specific crafts, games, sports, swimming, and weekly field trips. Teen Xtreme and Xtreme Adventures camps are designed specifically for teens for a non-stop summer of fun and excitement.
New this summer, the Y is providing half-day specialty camps partnering with third party vendors such as the Pacific Science Center, Seattle Children’s Theatre, Ropeworks, Satori Martial Arts, and Positively Puppetry with the Promise Players. Other specialty camps include art, horseback riding, skateboarding, and sports camps.
Overnight camping adventures are offered for older campers. These camps provide further challenges with opportunities for hiking, rock climbing, river rafting, canoeing, horseback riding, and outdoor camping.
