Minority Achievers Program (MAP)

MAP's mission is to motivate and support students of color and immigrant students ages 11-19 to achieve higher educational and career goals.

From 1990 to 2008, the minority population in Snohomish County grew from 8% to over 20%, and this population is less likely to make the immediate transition from high school to college.

Since MAP started in Snohomish County in 2001, our measurements show that MAP students who were in the program for 2 or more years had a graduation rate of 87%. When surveying the participants, 91% stated that "being in the MAP program makes me want to try harder in school."

There is no fee for joining MAP, and participants are:

  • Supported by many community organizations and businesses, including local fire and police departments, The Boeing Company, University of Washington, and Snohomish County Superior Courts.
  • Supported in communication between themselves, their parents, and school districts.
  • Encouraged to strive for their academic best, and provided access to community and educational resources.
  • Exposed to a variety of career choices and invited to set and attain goals that will impact their future careers.
  • Connected to working professionals, businesses, tutors, and mentors. These role models help students make better decisions about higher education and reject destructive behaviors.
  • Guided through the process of college planning, financial aid, applications, and scholarships.
  • Eligible for MAP college scholarships funded by MAP's supporters.
  • Support MAP
